Everyone is getting along splendidly after a loooong day at two temples and some palaces. We even went out for some blue kamikazes after it all. Anyhoo I saw a huge golden buddha, some beautiful architecture, tried pad se yew, bought a thai camera, and learned about the people of the program.
So what am I doing exactly, you ask?
Well a yer ago I did a Bioethics program at Yale and I loved it so this is an extension but in another country. The first session we are learning about medical diplomacy and how Thai religion impacts ethical decisions that doctors have to make on the daily basis. The program has drawn people from all over the US and different years in college and recent grads from a variety of backgrounds to discuss bioethical issues that plague the international medical world. We start class tomorrow and we have a different speaker every day. We have discussions and do a group paper and presentation at the end of both sessions. At some point we are going to the red light district to interview prostitues (i dunno but i will keep you updated). Anyways it will be very interesting because we will probably contrast how the US would deal with a problem and how the Thai people would and hopefully we can bring back a different prespective.
We have friday through sunday off. We plan on going to a full moon party on sunday though it takes 12 hours by bus to get there and 2 hours by flight. Look up a full moon party and you will see why we are excited to experience it! We also plan on going to the floaty market and riding elephants, as well as shop! The most I have spent on food is 6 dollars with a meal coming in at usually 100BHT or 3 USD. I hope to not get fat :(. I will try to walk it off. I bought this lil camera for 3000 BHT which is like 90 USD and I got a case, charger, and converter to upload my pics as well. I hear the shopping for clothes is just the best.
Anyways this isn't my computer my roomie fell asleep waiting for me to finish. I will write soon!
